Unblock Facebook

Is your school or work blocking sites like Facebook, MySpace, and YouTube?

When you try to access your favorite sites such as Facebook, it may be blocked if it says “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage” or “Address Not Found. Firefox can’t find the server.”

Why do companies or schools block sites like Facebook?

Businesses block access to Facebook during office because managers may feel that surfing social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace at work could make employees less productive. Schools may block access to those sites for the same reasons, with teachers feeling that students may not be paying attention in class. Both schools and companies also want to protect their computers from viruses or spyware that can potentially be transferred through certain websites.

How do I unblock Facebook?

  • Use a free or paid proxy website
  • Remote control a PC which has access to the blocked site
  • Tether your cell phone to unblock Facebook

A web proxy server acts as a go-between or middle-man between your computer to a different server, in this case Facebook’s server. Use the Circumventor Central site to receive new URLs every 3 to 4 days of free proxy sites to access blocked sites. You could, of course, pay for a proxy which would generally run you a fixed monthly price of $10 to $100 a month.

If you have a PC at home, you can remote control your home PC from your school or work. You’ll need to install an application on both your home PC and your school or work computer. Some businesses or schools may restrict your access to install applications. You can try Radmin 3 to remote control your PC to unblock Facebook.

Basically, you are using your cell phone as a modem to connect to the internet. eHow.com has a good tutorial on how to tether your cell phone to your laptop. But if you already have access to internet on your cell phone, you can just directly access Facebook from your phone. That’s a lot easier then trying to tether it.

There was a recent service called MoDazzle.com which made it possible to use Facebook through email commands. Unfortunately, that site has discontinued its service on February 13, 2009.

There you have it! Ways to feed your addiction to Facebook and unblock it at your work or school.
